A short case study showing the effects of light therapy treatment on a parrot suffering from ulcerative lesions due to self-mutilation.
Condition: The patient was presented with chronic, ulcerative lesions due to self-mutilation. His owner has kept it covered and clean for 2 weeks prior to presentation.
Treatment: Phototherapy was done once a day for 4 days on “wound 21+ days” protocol, then repeated 4 days later for 4 more days.
Outcome: Phototherapy aided in healing the old chronic lesions by having a marked pain relieving effect. Thus the parrot was less inclined to inflict self trauma.
