Katie was born in Cardiff and moved to West Wales at the age of 6. Soon after moving to the area Katie began having riding lessons at a local riding school. Growing up riding with the local Tivyside Pony club Katie tried her hand at all disciplines including mounted games, show jumping and eventing before deciding to concentrate on dressage. Katie competed for the Welsh BYRDS (British Young Riders Dressage Scheme) teams from 2005 – 2014 on three different horses which she produced herself. She has competed up to FEI Young Rider (PSG) level and has ridden at the British Dressage Summer and Winter National Championships as well as the Petplan Area Festival Finals. Katie’s knowledge as a rider helps her to understand the ‘feeling’ a rider gets when they encounter any ridden problems. Katie gained a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Equine and Human Sport Science from the University of Wales Aberystwyth in 2011. Katie developed an interest in rehabilitation and management of the competition horse through her own horses and competing. This, coupled with an interest in biomechanics and physiology which developed whilst at Aberystwyth lead her to study for a MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy from Harper Adams University. Katie qualified as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in 2015 and is a member of the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists (NAVP).
