Paul Chandler at Mallingdown Dogs has teamed up with Photizo and is now a brand ambassador. When asked how he first came to find the Photizo, and how it is helping him now, he replied:
“I started competing in canicross and then bikejor around 4 years ago. What started as some leisurely rides has progressed quickly on to racing at national level competitions and this year getting Silver at the British Championships in Male Bikejor (Elite Category).
As we get fitter and faster, we’ve found it increasingly important to take active steps to reduce the risk of any injury to our dogs. We have for a while regularly taken them to hydrotherapy and they have periodic checks and treatments with their chiropractor, which is where the dogs first experienced light therapy. Although the dogs first had treatments with our chiro, light therapy had been on my radar for quite some time as it is used by many top professional cyclists to aid in warm up and recovery of muscles.
While there are many therapies for dogs (and humans) out there, before we ever consider a therapy we look into the research behind it, and with light therapy there is plenty, with positive results that can be scientifically proven.
Luckily so far, since we started using our Photizo, we have only needed to use the unit for one small injury, but regularly use it on the dogs pre and post exercise, with extra time taken when training especially hard efforts.
The ease of use and portability of the unit is great as it means the dogs can get regular treatments wherever we are, which is ideal when we’re away racing. As we continue to train hard, it’s great to know that we can offer the dogs something extra between other therapies that are far less frequent.”
Paul is still using the Photizo Light Therapy Device as a proactive treatment between other therapy sessions. To see more from Mallingdown Dogs, click the link here to view their website.
